LGU-Tubigon advocates for a Child-Friendly Local Governance

TUBIGON-Being hailed as a Presidential Awardee as a Child-Friendly Municipality, the local government unit of Tubigon became one of the six (6) Communities of Practice (CoP-LGUs) alongside Mandaluyong City; Vigan City; Naga City, Camarines Sur; Davao City and New Lucena, Iloilo. As a CoP-LGU, Tubigon became a replication hub or center for other LGUs and stakeholders through exchanging of knowledge and experiences in implementing child-friendly programs and mechanisms. The Child-Friendly Local Governance (CFLG) Course, as the it was called, run from October 6-10, 2014 at Bohol Tropics Resort, Tagbilaran City and in the Municipality of Tubigon. Local officials and functionaries working for children from Arakan, North Cotabato; Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte; Monreal, Masbate and Zamboanga City engage in this activity. The 5-day course is highlighted with a Site Visit on October 8, 2014 of LGU Tubigon’s child facilities – the Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Center (STAC), Evacuation Center and Barangay Cawayanan’s Day Care and Health Centers. The Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) of Tubigon headed by Mayor Marlon Amila and Kagawad Ever Flores facilitated the visit. Mayor Marlon R. Amila, during his message, gave emphasis on the importance of being a child-friendly LGU and its contribution to the municipality and to the people. He also expressed his gratitude to the organizers for choosing Tubigon as their pilot municipality for this activity. During the site-visit, Engr. New Liga Vice President of Tubigon Elected

By: Elaine Mae Ladeza TUBIGON- “The power of the youth is his strength while the power of the old is wisdom” are the words of the newly-elected Vice President of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Tubigon. The death of the late Liga Vice President Rosauro Yosoya had brought vacancy to the position of the second in rank in this association. Hon. Anecita B. Middlemist, the Liga President, then call out for an election to fill up the vacant slot. During their ABC meeting held last Thursday, September 18, an election was held. There were three Punong Barangays who have expressed their intention to run for the position. These three were PB Fernando Astronomo of Barangay Pandan, PB Roy Ladra of Pinayagan Norte and PB Victoria Concha of Bosongon. There having thirty-one Punong Barangays who were present that day, votes were casted and the only rose among the thorns was declared the winner with the total votes of eighteen. The whole process was witnessed by the members of the Board of Election Supervisors headed by Jogepons Ruloma the MLGOO-DILG, Dolores Boligao the COMELEC representative and Ma. Trina Sumayang the representative for the CSO. Hon. Victoria L. Concha is not new in the world of politics since her husband, Mr. Lucresio C. Concha, was a public servant himself and so is her daughter Atty. Susan Espera Concha-Lopez who is a Councilor of this municipality.
