Tubigon LGU blesses new guard house By Reyna Omictin Project Seahorse Foundation for Marine Conservation Inc.in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Tubigon blesses a new Marine Protected Area (MPA) Guard Houselocated at Barangay Matabao of the municipality last June 22. In line with the LGU’s strengthened Coastal Resources Management and its thrust in saving Danajon Bank, a Double-Barrier Reef – the only one in the Phlippines, the guard houses were built to serve as the docking and surveillance area of the Seaborne Patrol (BantayDagat). The guard house is “the tenth in the municipality, as we have installed 9 others, scattered around the municipal waters,” says Yolanda Labella, Municipal Agriculturist. On the other hand, Vice Mayor Virgilio C. Fortich, who came with the entire SangguniangBayan expressed his delight upon the installation of the said structure saying it is a determining factor in the strict implementation of the LGU’s CRM, in order to save not only Danajon Bank, but the future of the entire Tubigon. Tubigon, in the previous years, has taken steps in preserving its marine ecosystem, spearheaded by Municipal Mayor William Jao himself who declared his divergence in illegal fishing as he states “it destroys not only a portion, but the entire ecosystem.” “We guard our seas, for it must be preserved for our future generation,” Jao added Hon. Rene Villaber, SB Committee on Environment, also inspired his colleagues and the public in saving the environment, given the fact that the global warming phenomenon is seeping in into our planet. “There’s nothing impossible if we work together,”Villaber says.
