Tubigon gears up for Christmas through light display

By: Reyna Omictin                 The holiday chill rises up to our noses as Christmas Day approaches – the busiest season for Filipinos, especially for the jolly Tubignon fellows. Colorful lights carefully hung over window panes, balls and garlands laid on the towering Christmas tree, handcrafted parols dangling over tree branches, the dear old belen drawn out of the box to be arranged near the altar: a traditional Filipino Christmas setting. Tubigon town is very much in harmony with the season as the Local Government Unit gears up for Christmas with the “Light A Tree Program – Switch On Ceremony” last December 10, 2011 at the St. Isidore Parish Open Stage. Dubbed as the “Gateway to Northern Bohol”, Tubigon is in its immense preparation for the season quintessentially because quite a number of tourists breeze in the municipality as they proceed to various tourist destinations in the province. Angel-figured Christmas lights are now gleaming over branches of the towering trees in the town plaza which are made from recycled plastic bottles, colored hard tulle and light bulbs. This idea was from the creative mind of the Tourism Culture and Arts Consultant, Mrs. Gertrude Cabrera-Abarquez, who was also the Chairperson of Bulong Imang Streetdancing and Showdown of Tubigon’s Tanda Festival 2011. Hon. Mayor William R. Jao, formally launched the event with yuletide greetings to the people, spreading his tidings of peace, love, prosperity and hope, as Tubigon embarks another year in the advent of the year 2012. MIND7 visits LGU-Tubigon

By: Reyna Omictin The Media Information for Nutrition Development of Region 7 or MIND7 visits the Local Government Unit of Tubigon, and made a courtesy call to Mayor William R. Jao, for their media tour last December 9, 2011. A team of tri-media experts (press, print and broadcast)  held a two-day learning visit in the province of Bohol as part of their monitoring and evaluation on the programs of the National Nutrition Council, starting off with Tubigon being a National Awardee on Nutrition. The group started the activity with a  brief discussion on the purpose of their visit. Sangguniang Bayan members, headed by the Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Virgilio C. Fortich, were also present during the discussion and warmly welcomed them to Tubigon. Part of their visit was also to observe the Breastfeeding Station and Lactating Room, another fraction of the programs of NCC, which is located at the first floor of the Tubigon Commercial Complex or the Tubigon Public Market. Ms. Joanna Faye Obdulia B. Boligao, the Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinator, explained before the group the information regarding the Breastfeeding Room, and how the municipality has acquired the access to put up the said structure.
